Play Call Break online with friends and family
Call Break is the card game of Indian and Nepali family evenings, train journeys and hostel nights: four players, a standard deck and spades that always win. The challenge is simple to say and hard to master. Call how many tricks you will take, then make it happen without taking far more than you called.

How to play Call Break
- Four players each get 13 cards. Spades (♠) are always trump.
- Starting left of the dealer, each player calls how many tricks they will win, from 1 to 8.
- The player left of the dealer leads the first card, and everyone plays one card in turn.
- Follow the suit that was led, and play higher than the best card so far if you can.
- If you have none of that suit, you must play a spade. With no spades either, play any card.
- The highest spade wins the trick; if no spade was played, the highest card of the led suit wins.
- After 13 tricks the round is scored and the deal moves on. After the last round, the highest total wins.
Call Break rules at a glance
- Players: 4, each playing alone.
- Calls: 1 to 8 tricks, made once per round before play.
- You must beat the best card of the led suit when you can, unless the trick has already been trumped.
- Out of the led suit: you must play a spade, higher than any spade already played if you have one.
- Make your call: score the call plus 0.1 for each extra trick (call 4, win 6: 4.2).
- Miss your call: lose the call (call 4, win 3: minus 4).
- Rounds: 3 in Quick, 5 in Full. Ties are decided by tricks won in the last round.

Tips to win at Call Break
- Count your sure winners when you call: aces, the king of spades and long spades.
- Short in a suit? That's a chance to trump with a spade, worth counting in your call.
- Call honestly. Missing costs your whole call, while an extra trick is worth only 0.1.
- Once your call is made, play low cards to avoid taking tricks you don't need.
- Watch who runs out of a suit; they will have to trump it with spades.
- Keep track of the high spades already played, so you know when your king or queen is safe.
