Play Oglan online with friends, free
Oglan is the fishing card game of Syria, Iraq and south-east Turkey. Its name is the local word for the jack, the “boy”, and the jack is its strongest card. It plays like Basra with one big difference: a number card takes the table cards that make 11 together with it, so a 4 takes a 7, and a 6 takes a 2 and a 3.

On Rayoosh, Oglan is free, with no money and no betting. Rayan's short How to play lesson walks you through making 11, the picture cards and the five points of a round, and a private table brings your friends in with one link.
How to play Oglan
- One 52-card deck, no jokers. Four cards are laid face up in the middle: the table. A jack never starts on the table; it goes back into the deck and another card is turned.
- Each player gets 4 cards. When every hand is empty, 4 more are dealt, until the deck runs out.
- The player after the dealer starts. On your turn you play exactly one card; there is no passing. You may play any card, but a card that can capture always captures.
- A number card (ace = 1, then 2 to 10) takes the table cards that add up to 11 with it: ace and 10, 2 and 9, 3 and 8, 4 and 7, 5 and 6. Several cards can go together: a 6 takes a 2 and a 3.
- You take one group per play. When more than one group makes 11, you choose which.
- A queen takes only queens and a king only kings. They are never part of a sum.
- A jack takes every number card and jack on the table, but never a queen or a king. On a table with no numbers or jacks, it is laid down.
- A card that takes nothing stays on the table. When the last card is played, everything left goes to whoever made the last capture.
Oglan scoring at a glance
- Each round shares out 5 points.
- 27 or more captured cards: 2 points. At 26–26 nobody gets them.
- The 2♣: 1 point. The 10♦: 1 point.
- More clubs than the other side, 7 or more of the 13: 1 point.
- There is no bonus for clearing the table.
- Quick: first to 11. Full: first to 21. If both sides get there in the same round, the side that scored more in that round wins.

Tips to win at Oglan
- Watch the point cards: the 2♣ and the 10♦ are worth a whole point each, so don't lay one on the table when you have another card to play.
- Count the clubs. Seven of the 13 bring a point, and the race is often close.
- Before you lay a card, check what the next player could take with it: a lone 5 on the table invites any 6.
- Save your jack for a table with plenty of number cards, or one with the 2♣ or the 10♦ on it.
- Lay a queen or king whose partners are already gone: nobody can take it before the end of the round.
- In the last packet, plan to make the last capture: it brings every card left on the table, pictures included.

Questions and answers
Is Oglan on Rayoosh free? Is there real money?
It is completely free, with no real money and no betting. You earn Pearls by finishing place, and Pearls can never be bought or cashed out.
What does Oglan mean?
It is a local word for “boy” and the name of the jack in this game, its strongest card. The jack takes every number card and jack on the table.
How does making 11 work?
Your card and the table cards it takes must add up to exactly 11. An ace takes a 10, a 2 takes a 9, a 3 an 8, a 4 a 7 and a 5 a 6. A 6 can also take a 2 and a 3 together, but you take only one group per play.
Can the jack take queens and kings?
No. The jack takes number cards and jacks only. A queen takes only queens and a king only kings, and any left at the end go to the last taker.
How many points is a round of Oglan worth?
Five: 2 for 27 or more cards, 1 for the 2♣, 1 for the 10♦ and 1 for the most clubs. At 26–26 the 2 card points go to nobody.
What is the difference between Oglan and Basra?
In Basra a card captures by matching or adding up to its own value, and clearing the table scores a Basra. In Oglan a card captures by making 11, the jack leaves queens and kings, and a round is worth 5 points with no bonus for clearing the table.
